For Mental Health Awareness Week 18-24 May 2020 we asked you to send us a short video of your Art and Mental Health story.

It’s never been more important than right now to raise hope and awareness that being creative supports mental wellbeing. These past few months have been pretty ‘unprecedented’ to say the least, a time where we are all facing uncertainty, anxiety, loneliness, grief and myriad of other emotions, and we still have no clue what the ‘new normal’ will look like.

Throughout the lockdown we have turned to creativity and we have rediscovered how much it helps us to share with one another, interpret our experiences, and stay mentally healthy through the arts and culture.

Here are some Art and Mental Health stories:

Liz: How art made me feel whole

Vicki: How art is my salvation and new way forward

At Arty-Folks we are working towards a world where creativity is not just seen as ‘nice to have’ but is understood as the foundation to good mental health. Particularly the visual arts have an amazing ability to bring people together, enabling us to find strength in ourselves and comfort in each other, and create a genuine sense of belonging with profound impact on our sense of well-being and purpose in life.

What’s your story? Please post your video on facebook or twitter and tag us in @ArtyFolks #ArtyFolksCov

Thank you!
