We are thrilled to announce that Arty-Folks has been awarded 2 years of funding from Coventry&Warwickshire Mental Health Collaborative Integrated Care System to expand our Canvas to Change programme. This exciting development will allow us to support 100 young people aged 16-29 particularly those who are unemployed, from underserved communities, and are from diverse ethnic and gender backgrounds.

If you’re feeling lost, overwhelmed, or unsure about how to move forward in life, Canvas to Change is a safe space where you can reconnect with your creativity, make new friendships, and take control of your mental wellbeing.

What is Canvas to Change?

Thanks to this new funding, Canvas to Change is now part of a 2-year prevention project designed to support young people who are most at risk of developing severe and enduring mental health conditions. The project aims to help you transition into adulthood with confidence and reduce your dependence on statutory services. Through a holistic approach, we’ll provide everything you need to build resilience, become more independent, and start working towards your goals—whether that’s continuing education, finding a job, or simply improving your mental health.

Launching this World Mental Health Day 10th October ’24, young people will be able to join this transformational programme that combines visual communication with 1:1 life coaching and peer support groups.  This Creative Peer Support group meets weekly every Wednesday 4pm-6pm at our art studios in Coventry and is intended to fit around school and other commitments.  To attend, young people need to book through our What’s On page and we then call them to discuss their needs and what we can offer.

Our programme combines art therapy with 1:1 life coaching, peer support groups, and other activities that are structured to help you:

  • Improve your social confidence and learn to communicate better with peers.
  • Develop self-care skills that will help you maintain both your physical and mental health.
  • Step out of your comfort zone by learning new, transferable skills that will help in your studies, career, or personal life.
  • Manage your finances and digital skills so you can live more independently and confidently.
  • Connect with mainstream community opportunities that will boost your mental wellbeing and physical health.

Why This Programme Matters

Young people today are facing increasing pressures, and mental health issues like anxiety and depression are more common than ever. At Arty-Folks, we’ve seen a sharp rise in the number of young people battling mental health challenges since the pandemic. Many feel isolated, unsure of how to connect with others, and uncertain about their future.

With the support of Coventry & Warwickshire NHS Partnership Trust, we’re tackling these issues head-on. Our Canvas to Change programme is a transformational experience that addresses the root causes of poor mental health, helping you not just to cope, but to thrive. You’ll be guided through creative activities and life coaching sessions that help you regain control, rebuild your confidence, and start shaping the future you want.

What Can You Expect?

Over the next two years, Canvas to Change will offer a comprehensive programme of support. You’ll attend two full days of workshops each week, where you’ll engage in:

  • Creative Peer Support Groups: Work in small, friendly groups where you can share your experiences, make new connections, and express yourself through creative projects.
  • 1:1 Life Coaching & Mentoring: Receive personal support to help you set and achieve your goals, no matter how big or small.
  • Art Therapy & Visual Communication: Explore your emotions and challenges through creative expression, developing new skills in digital art, storytelling, and more.
  • Progress Planning: With tools like the SWEMWBS and Recovery Star, we’ll track your progress and help you reflect on how far you’ve come throughout your journey.
