All of us at Arty-Folks are deeply touched by the outpouring of generosity shown in memory of Cecily Foulger. We want to extend our sincerest thanks to everyone who made a donation in her honour.

Cecily lived a life filled with creativity, kindness and compassion. Nicknamed “Arty” because of her mischievous ways, from an early age she had a keen interest in art, and throughout her life became a passionate painter, with her favourite medium being watercolours. Cecily found joy in painting and capturing the beauty of the world around her, mostly in the United Kingdom but also in the many countries she visited including Switzerland, Italy, Germany, France and Canada.

Through life’s hardships of living through the second world war to losing her first husband, art played an important role for Cecily, who found a great deal of solace in painting, and continued this healing creative activity well into her 90’s.

Cecily shared her love of art and painting with family, friends and always encouraged people to try it. She inspired her second husband to take up watercolours in his retirement and enjoyed getting the watercolours out to paint together with her Great-Granddaughters!

Cecily spent half of her life in Sydenham, London and half in Nuneaton, Warwickshire. In both places she enjoyed attending local art groups and appreciated the support and importance of these creative communities.

Beyond her artistic gifts, Cecily was known for her generous heart, determination, authenticity, radiant smile and infectious laughter. She cared deeply about making a positive difference in the lives of others and encouraged others to embrace the joy and healing powers of art.

Her daughter Louise feels Cecily would have believed deeply in the mission of Arty-Folks; to support adults 16+ in the CV area who are struggling with mental ill health to navigate life circumstances using the creative process.

Thanks to your generous donations in Cecily’s memory, we are able to continue the important work that reflects the values she held dear; Genuine Acceptance, Creative Excellence and Empowering People.

Every gift helps Arty-Folks to inspire people recovering from mental health problems to realise their full potential and lead fulfilling lives through the visual arts, ensuring that Cecily’s legacy of creativity, kindness, and compassion lives on.
