PQASSO gives thumbs up to Arty-Folks

Arty-Folks was awarded the prestigious PQASSO Quality Mark at level 1 by the Charities Evaluation Service, an award that is endorsed by the Charities Commission.

The quality assessment of the Coventry charity was carried out by a peer reviewer who reported  “Arty-Folks is a small but extremely effective charity that is particularly good at defining its aims and objectives, monitoring and evaluating its outcomes, involving and developing its service users and meeting their and its funders’ needs.

It has a clear commitment to quality and has adopted a systematic and all-inclusive approach to PQASSO self-assessment and quality improvement. Those interviewed were very clear about the improvements that had been produced. It meets the PQASSO Level 1 standard at all respects in all twelve quality areas.

It was a very enjoyable and straightforward site visit to a most friendly, welcoming and open organisation.”

Arty-Folks began 1995 as an informal art group for people with mental ill health who are seeking to reduce social isolation, to de-stress, and build skills and confidence.  Over the years we have grown from an informal art group to an organisation that provides a therapeutic art program that delivers real outcomes for people and measurable social return on investment.  Today we support over 150 people per year and 2014/15 over 50% of members who left our service now lead their lives without support of statutory services and moved successfully into employment, volunteering, and recreational opportunities in the community.

But we are mostly proud of the amazing artwork our members create which we feel the famous artist Picasso himself would have endorsed.  He would have been impressed with the content and quality of art work our members create with zest, honesty, and self-awareness.

Of course it has been a long, tough process but without a doubt well worth it.  We couldn’t have done this without the help and dedication of our staff, the passion of our Peer Volunteers, the drive of our Board of Trustees, and lasts but not least – our colleagues at Voluntary Action Coventry who first encouraged us to go for PQASSO.

This award comes as we prepare to celebrate our 20th anniversary this November.

With a heavy heart we have accepted that we need...
